#SMS Director

“Musical Theatre” is a form of theatre combining spoken words, songs and dance. The story as well as the emotional content is communicated through the words, music, movement and technical aspects of the performance as an integrated whole. It is always a challenge for professional performers to manage acting, singing and dancing at the same time; so, can the students in the Summer Musical School manage the materials (especially when we have only three weeks)?

I believe in our students because they learn and possess the great qualities of being professional performers in the summer school – dedication, drive, discipline and diligence. I am sure these qualities will stay with them beyond the summer school and will be an important part of their whole-person development in no matter what they do in the future.

Besides the “4Ds”, there is one other thing that profoundly touched me – the students’ PASSION for musical theatre. In fact, “passion” is rather the key element:

When the passion becomes too strong for speech…
You sing!

When the passion becomes too strong for song…
You dance!

When the passion becomes too strong for anything…
It changes everything!

Let’s sit back and enjoy the production of the hard work of the cast and crew in the past three weeks and appreciate their PASSION!

I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude and my warmest regards to our musical director - Owen, choreographers – Jun and Bo, assistant director - Marc, singing coach - Freddy, production manager – Sam, and all of our teachers, stage managers, designers as well as administrative and technical team members for making this Summer Musical School an entertaining, enlightening and empowering experience for the students. Last but not least, thank you Alice, our producer, for having me back to this wonderful place where I missed so much.

Thank you and may God bless you one and all!
