EXCEL has been running its Summer Musical School (SMS) which has become arguably the best musical programme in Hong Kong.  In 2009, HKAPA EXCEL launched its full-time musical theatre programme, and in 2012, the programme gained accreditation that leads to the Pearson BTEC Higher National Certificate and Higher National Diploma in Performing Arts (QCF) qualifications.

 

One unique feature of EXCEL’s musical theatre programmes is that students also learn background of musical theatre development, and the special features of the era of a chosen musical.  Our instructors have a wealth of experience in leading musical performances for reputable schools in Hong Kong.  They are particularly skilled in drawing out students’ potential, helping them develop their strengths, and building each and every student up.

 

EXCEL’s SMS is an over $1M production that is participated by over 140 performers and 20 backstage students.  The SMS is arguably the most reputable musical theatre training programme, offering both performing and backstage training.  Students get hands-on experience to work at a professional theatre and study with renowned arts practitioners in Hong Kong.  Its past successes include Annie, The King and I, Joseph the Technicolour Dreamcoat, Grease, The Wizard of Oz, High School Musical, High School Musical 2, Footloose, The Beauty and the Beast, and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers; and self-devised musicals including MJ Relived, MJ Relived 2, Oz to the Future, New Kids on the Block, Broadway, Here I Come!, and Cinderella.
